Cheaper...only one part in a berdan primer..the primer cup.

More reliable..no chance of a missing or cocked anvil.

"Hotter"  The two fire holes in the Berdan pocket actually give a more direct
path for the flame than the tortuous path around and through a three legged
anvil, only to converge again to get through a central fire hole.
