The custom-molded to fit your ear canal plugs are the best for impulse
noise which firearms produce. They cost about $30; very reasonable.
Plus, they don't interfere with rifle stocks and you don't sweat around
your ear underneath like the clam-shell external one cause. They'll
provide about 30 or more dBA of attenuation; plenty good enough. Wash
them in soap and water occasionally and they'll last forever. Ear
Acoustic Research (EAR), Boulder, Colorado makes the kits that some
dealers have. One or two other firms also make them. Available in
colors to match your attire, you'll be well satisfied with them. Get
two pair; you may loose one of the plugs.

If you consult an audioligist (ear and hearing specialist), you'll be
asked not to use foam-type ear plugs to save your hearing from high-level
impulse noise. Yes, there are large numbers of folks who use these things,
but they are intended for constant-level noise supression at lower dBA
levels than firearms produce.
But use whatever you want; it's your hearing abilities that's involved,
not mine.
