Thanks to the foresight of one man, the Navy has and will for a
good number years continue to use the 762 and or the M14. Dick Brown the
last Chief of Small Arms Procurement in the Pentagon, a retired Marine
officer who spent the last 20 someodd years upgrading the Navy small
arms made it a crusade that the Navy would never ever on his watch adopt
the M16 as a primary weapons system. He was one of the few in position
to do anything about it who did not get caught up in the politics of
McNamara's folly. Thank God for his background with the US Marines. He
had the common sense to hold out. This is the same man who is
responsible for the .50 sniper rifle, the new navy service pistol and to
many other accomplishments to numerous to list here.

# No offense, but what does it matter what rifle the Navy uses? After all,
# infantry combat is not their mission ('cept for the SEALs, of course).
# As a matter of fact, if the information in the Small Arms Master Plan is
# correct--that hit probability under combat stress approaches zero at any

# Hmmm...aren't the Marines using the M16A2, in preference to the M14?

# New Navy service pistol? Are you referring to that boat anchor that
# H&K is building for the spec ops types? ;^)

Most of you seem to think that the Seals are the only
small arms oriented combat troops the Navy has. The
last I heard there was something like 17 battalions
of Sea Bee. These land based sailors for the most part
are dependant on themselves for their own security
while operating in combat areas.
